Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Readeris a web based program that begins with each student taking a reading assessment in our computer lab. From this students are then given their reading range that correlates to a color label on the spines of the books. Huge amounts of time were spent labeling the majority of our collection with colored labels so our students can easily locate books at their reading level. After they read their book, they then go back to the computer lab to take a comprehension quiz on that book. Each book is worth a set number of points and each child is given a point goal that they must reach each trimester. The librarian keeps an ongoing chart of each student’s progress and prizes are given to students that meet their set AR goal each trimester. Students that reach all three AR goals during the school year are invited to a special AR Banquet hosted by the Roosevelt Staff.

Here are some fun stats:
Checking out books from the library at Roosevelt is for fun and a whole lot more!! From August - June, Roosevelt students typically check out almost 26,000 books! WOW!! This is recreational reading that is in addition to their other class work! Kids love reading at Roosevelt, and are excited to see their progress move forward!!
