Meet Our Assistant Principal
Dr. Shanna Laney
Hello Raccoons! My name is Dr. Shanna Laney. I am honored to serve as one of the assistant principals at Roosevelt Elementary. I was born in Redwood City and attended RCSD schools until middle school. I believe that all students can learn and at Roosevelt we value the dreams of our students and staff to believe in themselves and achieve success.
My dream was to go to college and I was the first in my family to attend college. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Psychology, a teaching credential, admin credential, Master’s in Educational Leadership, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership with a focus on English Learners.
I have been in education for over 20 years and taught 2nd grade to high school age students. I have been fortunate to serve as an administrator for over 10 years in elementary and high school programs. One of my greatest joys was teaching 3rd-5th grade newcomer students for RCSD’s summer program at Garfield Elementary this past summer.
In my free time, I enjoy walking on the beach, taking drives along the coast, and I love to swim with my granddaughter. I have two children and my son currently attends UCLA and is studying biochemistry to become a medical doctor.
