Meet Our Principal

Ms. Tina Mercer

Tina Mercer

I am thrilled to be the educational leader of Roosevelt School. I was a teacher for fourteen years in our district prior to becoming a Roosevelt Raccoon. My entire career in education has been in the Redwood City School District spread across four different schools. I love the diversity and child-centered approach of our district. One of the things I truly love about Roosevelt is our award-winning Project Based Learning program. The five pillars of creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and research are 21st century skills that set our children up for success later in life.

My journey to Roosevelt is a little unorthodox. I am an Australian who spent many of my formative years in Singapore, from 5th grade through high school graduation. After college here in the Bay Area, I returned to Australia to work in the corporate world for a decade. My heart was calling me to change careers and return to California, which I did, and I know I made the right choice.

I believe in educating the whole child and providing a safe and supportive environment for all our students to reach their potential. I have high expectations for students, and I know all our students come to us with many strengths. We are all in this together. We laugh and cry, we learn and teach, and we care. My hope is that our students leave Roosevelt well-prepared to become compassionate global citizens with a goal to make the world a better place.

In my free time, I enjoy cooking, reading, and traveling, and if you have visited my office, you will know I am also an avid sports fan!
