Dr. Shanna Laney | Principal

Dr. Shanna Laney serves as Principal of Roosevelt Elementary School and brings more than 20 years of experience in education as a teacher, school leader, district administrator, and higher education instructor. A familiar face to the Roosevelt community, she previously served as the school’s assistant principal and returned to Roosevelt after serving as assistant principal at Kennedy Middle School.

Throughout her career, Dr. Laney has worked across elementary, secondary, and higher education settings, giving her a unique perspective on student learning and development from the early years through college and career readiness. She is passionate about helping students build strong academic foundations while fostering the confidence, curiosity, and skills needed for future success.

Dr. Laney has served in leadership roles in both Redwood City School District and Stockton Unified School District and is a strong advocate for student achievement, school improvement, and equitable access to educational opportunities. Having previously served multilingual learners at the district level, she is committed to creating inclusive learning environments where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.

A proud Redwood City native and former RCSD student, Dr. Laney has deep roots in the community she now serves. She is fully bilingual in English and Spanish and believes strong relationships between schools and families are essential to student success.

Dr. Laney holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Concordia University Irvine, a Master of Education from Teachers College of San Joaquin, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Psychology from the University of the Pacific. She is known for her relationship-centered leadership style, dedication to student success, and commitment to building a positive and welcoming school community.
